Selling a product online is not difficult; but it’s not easy either. If you’ve been thinking and researching about selling your own product online, chances are you believe at least one of these myths. Here are 5 common online product selling myths I’ve come across, and my reasoning as to why they are false.
Myth 1: I need to be an expert to create a product and sell it online
That’s simply not true. You don’t have to know everything there is to know about your core area in order to create a good product. As Darren Rowse says, you just have to be one step further than your potential customer, just one level higher. You need to know just a little bit more than what you’re trying to teach/portray. Write/create for an audience that is just below you in the the learning curve.

Myth 2: I need to make a big investment in order to sell online
No, you don’t! With a startup capital of just $100 you can achieve a lot. Why, you can even start off for free. A free sales platform or hosting service will enable you to start selling your product, without even an initial financial investment. You will have to invest your time and effort though!

Myth 3: I can make big money immediately after I launch my first product
We’d love this to be true, but the fact is, it’s not. Nobody got rich overnight. Launching your product is just the first step. It will take a bit of time and effort for your work to bear a good reward. Slow and steady wins this race! The important thing is going forward and doing it, learning from past experiences and growing better. Strive to be unique and don’t settle for ordinary. You have to keep improving till you are the best!
Myth 4: I just need to set it all up; people will come and buy it
If you’ve been around the business circuit, you would know that this is false. Marketing is what drives a customer to your site. So, just because you have a great product and you’ve set it all up well, doesn’t mean people will find their way to your site and automatically be tempted to buy your product. You need to set up product launch campaigns and also connect with the right people who can help you promote your product launch.

Myth 5: I cannot do it; it’s all too hard
This is just a lie we sometimes tell ourselves when we think of everything that is involved in selling a product online. We get overwhelmed by the myriad details of creating the product, setting up the sales process, marketing, product delivery, etc. We tend to get discouraged and come to the conclusion that we cannot do it. Well, I’m here to tell you, that you can do it! Even if it does involve a bit of effort, it is not beyond your abilities. If you set your mind to it, you can create and sell your own product online.
